Imo State University was established in 1981 through law No. 4 passed by the Imo State House of Assembly. Established with the vision of pursuing the advancement of learning and academic excellence, the university has been unrelenting in the pursuit of its mission of becoming a citadel of learning, a community with the trademark of excellence in teaching, research and service to humanity, a catalyst as well as an agent for development.

1.) Vice Chancellor

Location: Imo

 

Qualities and Qualifications
A candidate for the post must possess the underlisted qualities and qualifications:

He should:

  • Be a University Professor with a minimum of 20 years of academic or cognate experience of which ten (10) years will be at the rank of a professor. Furthermore, the prospective candidate must possess a Ph.D in his/her discipline and must not be more than 65 years on appointment.
  • Be of very high academic standing in his/her discipline such as to command respect national and internationally; Imo State University Recruitment 
  • Be an accomplished administrator and manager of people and resources at a level sufficiently high to pilot the affairs of the University.
  • Have the experience of leading strategic developments and innovations;
  • Have the ability to command the respect of the academic community and foster interpersonal relations and team work. Pounds to Naira
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the MISSION and the mandate of Nigerian Universities, especially those of Imo State University and must possess the developmental and managerial skils to pilot Imo State University meaningfully in a developing society with rapidly changing needs and values.
  • Be a person with proven competent leadership qualities who would command the respect and loyalty of staff and students of the University, provide the necessary bridges between the various segments of the University Community on the one hand and between the University and its immediate and wider communities on the other hand;
  • Be of strong and unimpeachable character with high level of probity and integrity;
  • Be moraly sound and enjoy robust physical and mental health He should be fully ICT compliant.

Terms and Conditions of Service / Remuneration

  • The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of a Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Council.
  • The successful candidate will hold the post of Vice-Chancellor for a single term of 5 (five) years.

  • Names and Addresses of three Referees (one of whom must, where appropriate, be the head of the establishment where the applicant Currently works).

Note

  • Each application should be accompanied by 30 (thirty) copies of a statement of the candidate’s vision for the University in the next 5 (five) years in not more than 1,000 words and not less than 600 words.
  • In the case of candidate(s) dentified and nominated by the search team, each application must be accompanied by a letter of consent duly signed the candidate.
  • The sealed envelope(s) containing the application should be marked Vice Chancellor at the top left-hand corner and forwarded in time to reach the Acting Registrar no later than 4 (four) weeks from the date of this publication.
  • All applications, Curriculum Vitae, Referees Reports and other relevant documents should be submitted under confidential cover.

2.) Bursar

Location: Imo

Qualifications and Experience

  • The candidates should have a good Honours Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other related courses from a recognized University and must in addition be a member of a recognized professional accounting body such as ICAN, ANAN, ICMA, ACA, ACCA, ICPA.
  • The candidate must not be lower than the rank of a Deputy Bursar or its equivalent and must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years cognate experience in financial matters with at least three (3) years spent in a University or comparable institution as a Deputy Bursar.
  • The candidate should be of high integrity as well as ICT compliant.

Age:

  • In all cases, the applicants must not be above sixty (60) years of age at the time of appointment but applicants who were appointed to the position in acting capacity before the attainment of sixty (60) years are eligible to apply.

Conditions of Service

  • Each appointment shall be for a non-renewable single term of five (5) years and on such other terms and conditions as currently applicable to similar positions in the Nigerian University System and as may be determined by the appropriate University Law and The Governing Council.

3.) Registrar

Location: Imo

Qualifications and Experience

  • The candidate should hold at least a good Honours Degree with a minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification administrative and professional experience in a University or comparable institution.
  • In all possession of a Ph.D degree will be of added advantage.
  • He/she must in addition, possess adequate leadership qualities and managerial ability as well as a high degree of competence, integrity, transparency and of strong moral character.
  • The candidate must not be at a level less than the equivalent of a Deputy Registrar with a minimum three (3) years experience on the rank.
  • He/she should be ICT compliant.

Conditions of Service

4.) Director of Works and Services

Location: Imo

Qualifications & Experience
The candidate for the post must possess:

  • A Degree or any equivalent qualification in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, registrable as an Engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN),
  • NYSC Discharge / Exemption Certificate, Registration Certificate as an Engineer and current Practicing License by COREN
  • 15 years post qualification experience, ten years of which should be Post COREN Certification
  • 5 years as a Deputy Director, Possession of Higher Degrees and Fellowship of The Nigerian Society of Engineers will be added advantage(s)
  • He must be computer literate.

5.) Director of Physical Planning

Location: Imo

Qualification & Experience
The candidate for the post must possess:

  • A Degree or its equivalent qualification in Architecture or Civil Engineering, registrable as an Architect by Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), or as an Engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN),
  • NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
  • Registration Certificate and current Practicing License by ARCON or COREN
  • 15 years post ARCON/COREN Registration experience in a Physical Planning Directorate of a University,
  • 5 years of which as a Deputy Director, Possession of Higher Degrees, proficiency in use of CADD softwares, Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Architects or The Nigerian Society of Engineers will be added advantage(s).
  • He must be a computer literate.

6.) Chief Security Officer

Location: Imo

Qualifications & Experience
The candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • First Degree or equivalent from a recognized institution plus a Professional Certificate in Security Training from a reputable institution.
  • SSCE / NECO / WASCE / GCE O/L Credit in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English is compulsory.
  • In addition, candidate must have a minimum of 19 years post qualification relevant experience in a University or other institutions of higher learning or related recognized organizations.
  • Experience in relevant arm of Law Enforcement or any of the Armed Forces at a Management / Senior level will be an added advantage, such experience should be supported with a career profile.
  • Applicants should have the experience and drive to motivate other security personnel as well as provide excellent security coverage for the whole University Community within approved schemes and calendars.

General Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Computer will be an added advantage

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidate must possess at least a Master Degree in Mass Communication or English Language from a recognized University with NYSC Certificate or Exemption Certificate, as well as at least two (2) years experience as an Information Officer in any government Institution.
  • Membership of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) or evidence of registration in an added advantage.

  • The remuneration and other conditions of service are as contained in the Imo State University Condition of Service for Senior Staff.
