The federal government of Nigeria has released the list of officially recognized identity cards in the country. These identity cards can be used in any part of the country as a means of identification. The following identity cards have been officially recognized by the Federal Republic of Nigeria:

  • National Identification Card
  • Voter’s card
  • Driver’s licence identity cardIdentity Card in Nigeria
  • Standard Nigeria passport
  • Nigerian diplomatic passport (official passport)
  • Nigerian pilgrim’s passport
  • Seaman’s passport or Seaman’s card of identification

The above-listed identity cards can be used as a means of identification in any federal government and private facilities in the country.

How to get the National Identity Card

To apply for and get the National identity card, carefully follow the steps below.

  • Step 1: Visit the National identity card enrolment portal ninenrol.gov.ng to begin your registrationHow to Print NIN Slip Online – How to Check My NIMC Details Online
  • Step 2: Fill document displayed on the screen. Make sure the data provided are correct. You will be required to fill out the following categories; Personal details, parent data, origin data, next of kin data, documents data, Address information disability data, and physical features.JAMB Form
  • Step 3: Go through your inputs again to confirm all the details given are correct.
  • Step 4: Click on “Submit”
  • Step 5: After submitting the document, a 2D Bar code will be displayed on the screen, print the bar code and take it to a NIMC enrolment center near you. There you will carry out the last part of the registration process, and the National identity card will be issued to you.

How to get the Nigerian Voters Card

The Nigerian Voters card is one of the recognized identity cards in Nigeria. The application and collection of the Nigerian voter’s card are usually done every four (4) years before the election date. To apply for the Nigerian voter’s card, follow the instructions below:

  • Step 1: Visit the INEC registration portal https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/
  • Step 2: Click on “sign-in/register” on the portal
  • Step 3: Enter your valid email address and click on “verify”
  • Step 4: Check your mailbox for the link to verify your account and click on it. You will be redirected to another page for registration.
  • Step 5: Click on “Start registration”How to Send NIN to 9mobile
  • Step 6: A declaration message will pop up. Click on “yes”
  • Step 7: Provide the required information to the available spaces
  • Step 8: Upload the required supporting documents
  • Step 9: Upload your photograph
  • Step 10: Schedule an appointment at any INEC center close to you. Select your preferred date and center for you to do your biometric capturing.
  • Step 11: Submit the application.

After submitting your application, wait for the assigned date to get your biometric data captured. And that’s it! Your Nigerian voter’s card will be issued to you.

How to get the Nigerian Driver’s Licence Identity Card

The Nigerian Driver’s licence identity card is issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The driver’s licence proves that the holder is eligible to operate one or more types of motorized vehicles on a public road with in-vehicle supervision. To get the Nigerian driver’s licence identity card, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Go to https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org
  • Step 2: Fill out the driver’s licence application form and print it out
  • Step 3: Print out the payment slipNpower Recruitment
  • Step 4: Visit any of the designated banks to make the licence fee payment. You can also pay online
  • Step 5: Go to the Board of internal revenue or VIO at the DLC and present your form to the officer for endorsement
  • Step 6: Proceed to the Federal road safety corps (FRSC) office at the DLC to get your biometric data capturedWAEC Result
  • Step 7: A temporal driver’s licence will be issued to you. The temporal driver’s licence is valid for 60 days only.
