Palm kernel Oil (PKO) (20litres)

Caustic soda (10litres)

Sodium silicate ( ¼ litre)

Sodium sulphate

Perfume

Colorant

Phenol ( ¼ litre)

Pine oil ( ¼ litre)

3. Equipment Needed for Production

For you to carry out the production of toilet soap, you need the following instruments to help you with the production:

Scrapper

Nylon

Nose and face mask

Funnel

Litmus paper or hydrometer

A good working table

Water

Mould

Stamp (optional)

Litmus paper or hydrometer is used to test for acidity or alkalinity; you can use the soda to increase acidity if it is low and use industrial salt to reduce acidity.

4. Procedure

The procedure is a very short and quick procedure which you can follow without looking at any book or paper, this is it;

Dissolve the caustic soda first. Use the hydrometer to test for acidity, keep it at around 12.50 – 12.75

Then add the required quantity of soda solution to PKO at a ratio of 1:2

Then add phenol and pine oil together

Then add your colorant and perfume

Then add the sodium silicate

Then pour it into a mould and leave it for 5hours to get solid.

Then cut to your size and put your stamp (optional)

And you have produced your own toilet soap.

There are no technologies needed for you to produce your own toilet soap. But as you expand your means of production and when your customers are more than you can handle, you may need some larger equipment which will make the work easier for you.

5. Location

You can set up your soap making house just within your own home, this can suffice for a start, and then as you progress, you can move to another location which allows for more bulky production.

6. Funding Needed

There will not be many funds needed to start up, as the materials can be gotten easily from the market and your equipment are mostly part of what you use at home.
