FUNCTIONS OF NIGERIA FOOTBALL FEDERATION

1. ENCOURAGE DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL
One of the functions of the Nigeria Football Federation has been to groom future Nigeria’s footballers, both the amateur and professional footballers, so the NFF has been, and is still in the business of encouraging the development of Nigeria’s football stars
2. ORGANIZES MATCHES AND LEAGUES
Another aspect of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF is in the area of organization of matches of all types and leagues for football clubs resident in Nigeria. These football clubs are professional football clubs. The Nigeria Football Federation also is saddled with the responsibility of organizing matches for the amateur clubs within the country. And most of these organized leagues and matches are done in collaboration and with the cooperation of any organization that is fully recognized by the Federation.
3. ORGANIZES PARTICIPATION OF NIGERIAN CLUBS IN ANY INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
At the event of any international competition in the game of football, it is the responsibility of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF to organize Nigerian clubs’ participation in such international competitions.
4. OFFERS PERSONNEL TRAINING FOR ITS EMPLOYEES

This is done through its cooperation with the relevant bodies and making sure that such training is adequate for its staff members, including other personnel in its employ, particularly, if these personnel are involved in the art of administering and organizing various matches and different kinds of leagues, including other functions that may relates to the activities of the Nigeria Football Federation. All these efforts are geared towards enhancing and improving football administration in Nigeria with a view to achieve standard in the game of football by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF.
5. COMMERCIALIZES LEAGUE ACTIVITIES
The game of football is not just sporting activities, it is a business of its own and the administrators of the Nigeria Football Federation do engage in profitable deals or adventures to earn money for the organization, and this has been under the duties of the Nigeria Football Federation. How do they do it? They descriptively decide on those area of matches activities they believed if commercialized will generate income. These money generated can either go to the professional clubs, or the Nigeria Football Federation as the case may. In fact, it can also go to a professional footballer.
6. REGULATES REFEREES ASSOCIATION
There is an organization called the Nigeria Referees Association NRA, the activities of this body is regulated by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF. For example, for any referee to be certified as a professional referee, the Nigeria Football Federation must have to award or grant him license and once that is done, he is automatically a member of the Nigeria Referees Association NRA. That is what qualifies a referee to supervise any match, apart from that such conferment will enhance his status as a football referee.
7. GRANT LICENSES ANNUALLY TO FOOTBALL COACHES
Still on the list of Nigeria Football Federation NFF functions, it is also saddled with the responsibity of issuing out annual licenses to football coaches, who supposed to belong to the Nigeria Coaches Association. Nigeria Football Federation also do regulates the activities of the Nigeria Coaches Association.
8. DETERMINE INTERNATIONAL BODIES THAT AFFILIATE WITH THE FEDERATION

The Nigeria Football Federation, as the game of football administrators must continue in promoting the game of football in Nigeria. While regulating activities involving the game of football, Nigeria Football Federation must also ensure that every sport administrator, who is within its powers keep to his responsibility. These include; players, coaches, referees as well as, the technical advisers. This will help sustain the culture of peace, and the culture of discipline within football clubs in Nigeria.This is very critical too, there should be strong adhere to the ethics of football. Footballers and their supporters should be discouraged from being aggressive to the visiting football clubs in the event where the visiting team defeat the home team, because today, sports’ tourism, particular in the game of football has indeed contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria’s socioeconomy.
