Webb took over from Mike Riley last summer and was tasked with improving standards in the English game. But VAR issues have continued to happen on a regular basis and he was recently forced to apologise to both Arsenal and Brighton.NYSC portal
That led to the departure of the Prem’s first dedicated VAR ref, Lee Mason, who’d forgotten to draw the offside lines for Ivan Toney’s equaliser against the Gunners earlier this month. On the same day, Swarbrick was also criticised for not informing Craig Pawson that he missed a potential handball by Tomas Soucek during West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, which could have led to a penalty.
Like Mason, he was left out of the following round of fixtures. And while he did return to action, it looks like he won’t be operating at Stockley Park for much longer. Swarbrick’s exit is not thought to be down to VAR’s recent mistakes, however. The report adds that he has chosen to retire in the summer, a decision which has been planned for some time.JAMB Result
