According to an organisers’ estimate, Qatar welcomed little over 765,000 tourists during the first two weeks of the World Cup, falling short of the country’s projections of 1.2 million visitors over the month-long event.
A massive influx of visitors is unlikely at this point, with only eight teams still in Doha and eight games missing from the 64-team competition, which began on November 20.
Organizers had previously selected the peak period for international visitors as 24-28 November, during the congested group stage, when 32 teams played four matches per day.NYSC Portal
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), which organizes the competition, claimed in a report issued on December 7 that the first 17 days of the World Cup saw 765,859 international visitors, more than half of whom have since left.
According to the article, 1.33 million match ticketholders and 3.09 million tickets were sold throughout Qatar’s eight stadiums for the event, which closes on December 18.JAMB Portal
A Qatari official, who did not want to be identified, confirmed the data. The Supreme Court did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
